For a walkaround lens to go with my 18-105 on my D90, plus some (newbie) motorsport action.

I don't want to shell out on a Nikon 2.8 just yet.

Please, is this a good choice? I have discounted the Tamron on the basis of poor AF.

Any views appreciated.

i have the macro and love it to bits (see my flickr below for recent pics)

incidentatlly the pic on that site it NOT the 70-200.. it should be:

Yep, you have posted the correct lens. The Macro 2. Link changed as a result. Thanks.
Seems to get pretty good reviews at the price.

Lovely lens, but I decided that I didn't need the f2.8, the massive weight and bulkiness and got the 70-300vr and never looked back, superb lens. VR is a huge boon too.

The Sigma 70-200mm EX GD Macro II is a fantastic lens, may I suggest that you have a look at the used section on this site I am sure you will find a used one and It would save you a fortune. The going rate for a MkII version is about £425 and there are plenty about.
