Yes as title just booked my very first package holiday.

We are going all inclusive to Egypt, Sharm el -sheikh for 2 weeks.

Near to the sea.

Anyone been to This part before, and whats the local beer like??

Excited now as we normally do our own thing around Europe but decided that this year we would try a package holiday for a change to just relax, and enjoy the time together.

beers not bad there - and the sea is fantastic. Learn to dive while you're out there
 
We went 2 years ago, had a great time, visited Cairo and the pyramids. The snorkelling was brilliant without leaving the hotel complex, its definately worth taking a cheapo underwater camera.

Been twice, love it, be carefull when handling the money, it is gruppy, sanitise otherwise you will get a upset tummy.
 
Just in case the best thing for stomach problems (almost everyone gets it) is shot of vodka :)
 
Was there a few years ago and loved it. We went in August and it was maybe just a bit too warm but still a nice break. Local beer is called Sahara if I remember correctly.
 
Thanks guys for all the comments and some good reading on them links too.

Doubt i will learn to dive out there as its a holiday just for me and the wife with our daughter so will not be time for me to go swanning off for a few hours each day to learn.

Will do the snorkling thing though for sure, Will i be able to buy the stuff out ther cheap or will i have to take it with me???

Advice and a cheap but decent underwater camera would be good too. I love tropical fish so would be good to take some pics of some whilst swimming with them.
 
Me and my OH went their 2 years ago we did have a great time.

It was rather annoying at times though as some of them men wanted to buy me as I have very pale skin. So if you have a pale skinned female going with you - be warned she will probably get a lot of attention.

We had our own private beach which was 5 mins away from our hotel; it also had 12 swimming pools. One swimming pool even had a bar cave - my bf loved that :)
We went snorkeling - the fish we saw were amazing - I saw sting rays, puffer fish, angle fish etc.... when only walking a few feet into the water.

We went to Ciro to see the pyramids, my bf wanted to drive down by car but I wouldn't let him. We were in the bus a total of 18 hours - arggg never again lol
We also had private guards on the buses as well - who had guns and when we went tot he museum there were loads of armed policemen all around it!
It was a bit off putting and you are not allowed any cameras in the museum - you have to give them to the people who work their before you go in.

Oh and quad biking in the desert is a must, although at some points we were driving on the main road and I nearly got hit by a lorry.

You will probably get the tummy bug – my bf had it for the most of the holiday, basically you have to sprint to the toilet.
We were told that if you do have the tummy bug, don’t eat any of the meat or fresh fruit or veg as it will make it worse. So my OH and I basically lived of cooked pasta when we were their.

Oh and they don’t put their lights on when they are driving, which can be a bit dodgy. We never noticed then indicating either!

I would love to go back.
 
Been several times- although not for the last 5 yrs.
I was biased as I was only there for the diving, sharm itself needed sorting out- lots of half built buildings last time I went!

i asked the tour guide when i was on the bus visiting Ciro, why their was so many half buildings. he said that as a result of not haveing any windows, buildings being half built etc... He said that they actually do it on purpose so they don't have to pay any tax!
 
another thing i would suggest you do is do your research, especially with regards to taxi fares.

my bf did his research and he new our hotel (the sheraton) was only about 5-10 mins away from the air port and it would cost £5 - so 50 egyption to get their.
their was a load of taxis outside the airport and to cut a long story short and some arguing - they wanted to charge us £40 - so 400 egyption to take us to our destination. in the end they took £8 - 80 egyptian as we said we would take the airport buses - which were charging roughly £10 - £20.

also i wouldn't advice going to the towns in day light, even though you will get lots of things cheaper.
you will also get to see how discusing the food places really look before they are cleaned at nite!
it would make you sick!
 
Went there a couple of years ago with mates for the scuba diving,brilliant place.:):thumbs:
 
We took our own snorkelling gear - found it much better 'cos got good deal from Ebay and better than what was on offer over there. Quad bike in the desert is a must - we did two, day and evening.

Can't say I agree with not going into town in the day time - we even went into Old Sharm in the day and really enjoyed it. Yes, their standards are different than ours but surely that's part of being in a foreign country.

We didn't have one upset stomach between the four of us and we ate everything - although we were careful when handling the money 'cos it was minging!! I had some of that anti-bacterial gel with me and it seemed to work.

you must have been lucky, we took anti-bacterial gel - about 6 bottles infact. and i used it a lot. we also took a variety of stomach pain tablets and didn't eat anywhere apart from the hotel and our hotel was very clean.

we bumbed into a couple their who had been a few times and they didn't get a tummy bug either!

its basically like them comeing over to the UK and catching a cold!
 
Never been to Sharm, but it's a popular destination for SCUBA divers, and I've been tempted a few times by a live-aboard sailing from Sharm. Definately try to go diving, the Red Sea is supposed to be superb.
 
and if you want to go to cairo to see the pyramids i highly recommend flying. more expensive but beats 7 hrs on a coach. The pyramids are great but expect cairo to be a dump and you wont be far off ;)
 
You got me looking at it again and have booked up for 2 weeks in September :lol:

Been looking on the net and can get us picked up at hotel driven to airport and flew there and returned with a guided tour for £155 ech.

Will deffinatley be doing it no matter what the cost.

Learning to dive too so will do a couple of dives whilst out there too.

From what my step son who has been a few times to Sharm tells me, the local beer is like making love in a rowing boat...... f-ing close to water.
 
we booked with sharmexcursions.com and it was great. Whilst there are cheaper packages available when you get off the plane and you have a 12 seater minibus with possibly just 2 or maybe 3 couples in and everyone else gets into the packed 60 seater coaches youll now why they are good.

They are very knowledgable (sp) and will take you where ever you want to go. The perfume factory and papirus factory were not my cup of tea and just a sales opportunity really but if u dont want to go just agree as a minibus and go somewhere else instead.

prepare for the early morning start usually 5.45 and take a few bottles of water with you (they let you through the airport with them in your bag)
