Just bought a new camera and lens... what to do now?

Hey peeps,

So ive been needing a back up camera just incase my d300 failed whilst shooting a wedding, ive always got by without one and borrowed a d200 of my dad for backup.

Today i bought a d700 to compliment all that i have already from the d300, i also bought a 28-75 f2.8 lens.
thing is this lens covers the same field of view as my 17-55 f2.8 from my d300.
i also have a 50mm f1.8 and a 80-200 f2.8

do i sell the 17-55 or keep it??????

I would have thought you would keep the lens as a backup to that body, being DX and having the same FOV is a bonus surely, but if you need the backup, presuming you are now going to use the D700 as main camera you are going to need the 17-55mm?

If the D300 fails there isn't much point in having the 17-55.

On the other hand, if the D700 fails you don't have a back up for that focal range

Surely the point of having a back up is having a back up...

ive put my other DX lens up for sale which is an 18-135 as this rarely gets used now, so i think ill get the 17-55 as suggested , as back up and tbh im sure the d300 wont become a dust collector to the d700..........

You were looking for redundancy and you have bought another camera to achieve it. Ok, now it would be wise to do the same with the lenses.

As Ken have said: Surely the point of having a back up is having a back up...
