Just finished my website

Looks good to me. Only comments would be that there is no obvious "clock here" button on your home page to enter or "home" button on the galleries. Didn't bother me, but some people get surprisingly easily confused by that sort or thing. Love the pics but the way.

Ok sorted just me being thick. lol.

First of all love the photos a great set you have there.

Second I am not liking the gaps in the words, ie ''por tr ait ure'' but that should be easily sorted.

Thirdly the running of the photos is a bit jerky.

it is nice and easy to navigate though and again must say i love the photos.

I would say it is fine just maybe more pictures.

I have too say i wanted to see more

and maybe a page about yourself and how you love photography.

also if your up for commissions say so.

middle image on home page isnt loading, service page is asking to load a dynamic library link file, this isnt helping you customer wont like that, did you author this in ms word then save out as a html file ??

<html xmlns:v="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml"
xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"
xmlns:w="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word"
xmlns:st1="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"

fla galleries look nice, cheeky user interaction

Steve

if you want customers to find you you'll need to add some keywords, description tags, and alt tags, submit to google and yahoo but i believe the googlebots wont like the ms html

Looks good so far, there is a few things though.

The photo of the Atom,I think it is that, is very low res.
I dont really like the multiple images then it zooming in, Id prefer a slideshow type gallery but where you can also manually click through, but thats just personal preference.
Lack of 'Home' button.
I don't like the typeface on the current home page, on the 'People, Cars, My Services' bit. Need something a bit more 'hip, trendy' to go with your style.

MMM sorry bud it dont work fot me

My Services, dosnt seem pro,

when you enter each page there is no back link eg home page or any other, the only link is bottom right to open PostcardViewer, if someone clicks this they, leave your site, not good, maybe open new page would be better, also I would have a pre loader for you flash pages for slow connections JMO

as for the bots they will find your site weather you submit or not, some optimisation is a con now(change ), all registered domains are crawled as they are updated roSE,

OK key words and description used to matter but things have moved on now for instance I made a site what was registered on the 3rd this month, site made it was being llsted by the 5th, didnt submit it saved me a job

Check all your photos again, some of them have either not uploaded properly or you uploaded a dodgy photo, theres an ariel atom shot thats pixelated to hell and back and a couple other shots that are quite out of focus.

Redo your "my services" page. Its a completely different scheme to the rest of the site, also the english needs touching up. Maybe its just because its 1:30am now, but I would change the font on the page as well as it makes some words difficult to read - either that or double space between each word.

Regards, James

Better - although the picture on the front page would be better if it had the full car and not cropped/cut like it is.

I would capitalise home so instead of home, be Home and Contact.

Regards, James

Hi George

What is your goal for the website?

Do you just want to show a few pics to the world?
Do you want to sell prints?
Do you want to sell your services?
Do you want to boost your ego? (this is the type of site it looks like to me)

Nothing wrong with any of the above but unless you know what you want it to do, how can you ever achieve it? Decide what you want to achieve first and then put measures in place to achieve that goal.

If you want the site to make you money by either selling prints or selling your services, then using a term like "semi professional" will be counter productive, as will talking about your equipment and telling people you are still learning photography. Don't get me wrong, I have been taking pictures for 35 years and I'm still learning, but a potential client does not look at it in the same way as we photographers do. They think we have attained a skill level, in the same way that a plumber has. They would not hire a trainee plumber to fit a new bathroom suite and they would not hire a trainee photographer if the photographs are important.

Have seperate "services" and "about us" pages.

No offence but nobody (potential customers I mean) gives a crap about you, they are only interested in themselves. Your site is all about you, hence me thinking its goal is to feed your ego. If you want people to give you money for your services you need to start thinking about them, talking about them and writting on your site about them. Stop using the word "me" and start finding ways to use the word "you".

I know this is just a preview area, but from a tech point of view frames are never a good idea, so don't use them in the final site.

You say you've looked at other photographers websites and they all looked very different to yours? In what way? Have you changed your site since looking because I've only just looked at yours today. Why would you want a site that looks the same as everyone elses? What makes you think theirs is a good way of doing it? In the commercial world being better is good but being different is better, If you can, be better and different.

Serch for this term in any search engine clikpic Subtense photography and see how many so called professional photographers websites look the same.

There's loads of potential here, George, it just needs a bit of polish.

'home'

The most immediate issue would appear to be that you are resizing a 2984 × 1983 image to fit into a 606 × 343 space. And it takes ages to load. Then we've got the logo which looks a bit dated and pixellated. No problems with the name, but it's not conveyed in quite the right manner for the site. And I don't like the 'aboutgeorge' bit above your little intro as it looks misplaced and needs spacing out, changing colour and a capital 'A' and 'G'.

And as for the intro itself, I'm afraid I read it and forgot it instantly. There's nothing in there worth me knowing. Mainly because I don't need to know about your camera equipment and accessories. Potential customers will not care about that. The only people who care are other photographers who might know what it all means. And they are not your customers.

You would seem to have a talent for photography and I assume the website is meant to generate income through your fledgling photography business. So you need to sell yourself to people. What people want to see is who you are, what you, who you've done it for, how good it all was and why they should spend their money with you. They need a statement of intent to show them why they ought to buy into you but it doesn't need to be on the first page. You're a photographer first and foremost. Wow them with pictures, not words. Save that for an 'about' page.

'services'

So much space, so little content. A small photo of you, some text that would look far better if it was justified and then a whopping great black space on the left. After the experience with the homepage I was half expecting an image to slowly load. This page is crying out for a load of information detailing everything you can do and what people should expect.

'portfolios'

I don't get why the two images are different sizes. Looks unbalanced and very odd, almost like there's more to one than the other. No issues with the way the portfolios software but in terms of content there's a couple of duplicated photos in the 'Car' section and I don't like the way that the 'Car' section has one row of photos and the 'People' one has three.

'services'

For starters, I can't read the text. Secondly, I can't even click on your email address to send you a mail and instead have to copy and paste it out into an email. And thirdly, I really don't like that photo. Nothing personal, it just looks out of place.

I would like to see bigger text and a hyperlinked email address. Or, if possible, a contact form built into the website. That saves me having to open my email and potentially stray away from your site in the process.

'flickr'

Why? Why am I being taken to flickr? Why is this work not featured in your portfolio and instead I'm being redirected to a site where there's load of other photographers and thus temptation for me to stray from your pages? If it's worth showing people it's got to be worth putting on your website. And I see plenty there that's worth inclusion.

'other stuff'

I'd really like to see each page be exactly the same height so it fits inside a 'standard' browser window of 1024 x 768. What you've got at the moment is your 'All pictures on this website' message moving up and down as you change page. That needs to sit in the same place each time, content permitting. And while we're on the subject, the message doesn't appear in the one place it would be most appropriate. There's no sign of it on either portfolio page.

Some nice shots on there :)

I didn't read the whole thread but I'd say have at least two columns of thumbnails in your galleries. Only seeing a small selection and having to do lots of clicks to go through all the images could get annoying, especially once the galleries get bigger!
