Yes
Just purchased the sigma 120-300 f2.8 from Matt @ mpbPhotographic

I've read loads of reviews and it was between the canon 70-200 f2.8 or the sigma.. the sigma won this time and can't wait to get my mits on it.

So I just had to let the world know!!

Hope you have strong arms, 2.6kg.

Thats a pretty useful range at f2.8  Now lets see some pics :)

yeah i read that in the reviews.. I hope its not too heavy to manage but until it arrives I can't speculate.. 2.6kg?? how many fig roles is that??

Maybe time to look for a monopod.

Its the range at 2.8 that was the deciding factor.. most reviews and comments say its very useable at 2.8 and sharper than sigma prime at 300mm

Was this the second hand one? I had a look before and now its gone!! also in the same dilema - the 120-300 sigma or the canon 70-200 2.8

I will be interested to know what you think when you have had a play and what your views are

look forward to the pics

Yes guilty as charged

There was also the UV filter but someone got that before I could arrange the funds :'(

No worries

It looked a awesome lens, Please let me know what you think of it.

will do.. its hard to picture the size and weight on a photo and it does look quite substantial but its the picture quality that counts and I'm hoping it won't let me down.

I have one and use it a lot, cracking lens.I have a 1.4tc as well for that extra reach.I tend to use it more on the D300 than the 700.Only downside is the minimum focussing distance is a bit crap.

It ain`t that heavy either...............;)

I've got one and you do get used to the weight, hand hold mine most of the time. Congrats by the way.

Cheers

Matt

I'm hoping to hand hold with the 50D which has a crop factor of 1.6 making it 480mm at the long end. I guess a minimum of 1/500 to get a crisp image??

Is that realistic or do you find it different??

Depends on how shaky you are,or are not,how much ale you`ve supped over the weekend etc, etc, etc.

Seriously, I can handhold it with the TC and get good results lower than 1/500.

Can I ask what you use the lens for mostly??

I'm possibly thinking it might work indoors with a high(ish) iso setting.

I use mine for all type of sports, focus is nice and quick and so far have only shot at f2.8 with the winter we have had and its very good.

Since I bought the lens after 1pm yesterday (15th) I'm guessing it was dispatched today :)

Thats means tomorrow might be a good day :D

2 and a half bags o' sugar ;)

Its arrived :D

So I went out during my lunch and took some quick photos.. hopefully I'll get some better ones to put up but here you go

Initial thoughts?? Well pleased so far :)

Sorry for the delay, bloody work.

Mainly wildlife, but also at weddings during the speeches to keep me out of the way.

Happy new lens :)

I'm going to give the lens a go indoors tomorrow hopefully and see how it does. I have the popular tamron 17-50 f2.8 and it works well but not sure about a 300mm lens.

Do you use high iso settings for the weddings?? Its not the first lens people recommend for weddings.

I only use it for the speeches, mounted on a monopod and a D700.
ISO is at whatever it needs to be.
