I know, old news, but new to me.
First impressions.. wow its small, even compared to the D90 I had previously. Light too. I thought it didnt have a battery in. I looked, it did.

Must admit after having 4 Nikon cameras ranging from bottom to top of the range, the canon seems a little plasticy and the controls such as the scroll wheel are no way near as smooth as the Nikons.

The buttons are a little fiddly, and the menu doesnt seem very exhaustive. I cant seem to find any setting to keep the viewfinder display on longer, might just be me ***?

Oh and the zoom on the 70-200 f/4 goes the wrong way

However, the ISO performance is better than I expected and for the money I paid, its more than worth it.

I may consider upgrading to a 40/50D in the future as I really miss a top LCD, and a higher fps would be useful but this will see me good for a while .

It's just you !
That option is definitely there, I haven't got my camera to hand at the moment, but if you still can't find it I'll have a look later.

The fact that it's small and light is what drew me to the 450d in the first place. I have ridiculously small hands (seriously, we had to have my engagement ring made to size because it's a child's size) so it's a perfect fit for me. I also find that the buttons and dials are perfectly placed for my thumbs when I'm holding it.

I'd agree with this. I've held my boss's D60 and it feels literally just like a lump of metal. Really solid, in fact I'd say it's comparable to how my 1Ds feels. The entire XXXD range though do have that plasticky " might break " feel to it, as do their kit lenses. I feel that with Canon in order to get great build quality you have to spend a lot of money with them.

Something else that is odd, is the buffer only ever lets me take 2 shots in continuous mode, no matter what settings quality wise. Its definately not the card, a sandisk extreme 3 8GB 30mb/s

Any ideas? its kind of annoying
