Just had a shock

I've just been sorting out my camera bag and before putting it away thought I'd just pop it on the scales

12.5kg....and thats without my tripod or monopod attached

I think it's about time I invested in a 600 f4.......at least then I can make the subject come to me as opposed to the other way round

So come on then...get your scales out and lets see just how much weight we are lugging about in out spare time

I know how you feel---like topsy the kit just grows and grows.I decided to rationalise a lot of my kit a short while back and my regular bag still weighs way to much.My holiday/travel outfit works brilliantly for me when abroad so why cant I be satisfied with it at home ???

Mine varies a bit as I only load what I think I'll need, but in old money, it's about 18lbs usually - but is all used at that (except the plasters, but you never know)

My hand luggage weighed in at 10 kilos when I went on holiday last June, that was with a lens and some other kit packed in a suitcase too. Dread to think what it would weigh now as I've replaced the 17-85is with a Sigma 24-70 2.8 which is a fair bit heavier and the 70-200 F4L with a 100-400L and added a Canon 100mm macro and have a bigger bag.

I know when I went to China and they weighed it at the airport it was something like 16kg. Weight limit was 7kg...

14.7kg. Without the 200-400mm. Its about another 3kg. No wonder I have back problems!

I've no idea and no scales however I think it's currently in the region of about 3 or 4 kg and I thought that was heavy. Seems like I'm just a lightweight (pun intended) at the minute

A bit more than half a bag of feed, so I estimate about 11-12kg will be less when the 1D goes in someone elses bag!!

Mines only about 6 at the moment but will be changing my D50 for a D200+Grip soon

When I go on an overseas trip my cabin bag tops 23kg - inc 17in laptop. It carries everything that I could not continue without should my main luggage be lost, such as chargers, backup storage devices etc on top of the normal camera stuff. So obviously I won't fly on an airline that won't permit this weight. In my main baggage I carry a smaller bag for carrying around all day.

Last time I weighed it all it was 17kg, but that included the 70-200 f2.8 and the Sigma 50-500.
