Just how weatherproof is the 7D?

Yes
It states that its resistant to the elements, weatherproof etc... But what does this mean in the real world? I ask because I was out shooting a few days back, started to drizzle on me, and I decided not to risk it and put the camera away.

Cheers in advance.

I can yell you it's not all that water proof:(. I got caught out in a downpour last night (28 July) and just couldn't keep the water off the camera, even under my jacket. When I got home, I found the toggle button for moving around a pic when you zoom in on it in the display screen was going to the top of the pic whenever I touched it and did not go in any other direction.

I stuck the camera in the airing cupboard overnight to dry out and thankfully it's working ok now. Obviously water had got into it. So the claim they are weatherproof is rubbish:shrug:

They never said the 7D was properly waterproof, only the 1D series are anywhere near it. Apparently the little joystick bit is a bit of a weak point as far as the weather is concerned

I've shot in fairly heavy rain. I experienced the same problem as BRASH, but that was the only thing, the camera worked fine, and the joystick problem went after a night in the airing cupboard.

The joy stick is obviously the weak point then:thumbs:. That's the only problem I had.

I was bloody kicking myself, I had the dog out with me and it wasn't til the rain was just about off, I remembered I had a pocket full of poop bags I could have used to protect the camera:bang::bang:. Live and learn, might be an idea to carry these all the time.

I would check that the bag is empty first unless you got a NIKON.:nono:

Its probably about as weatherproof as the 5D.

I was out shooting on Sunday and got caught in a very heavy downpour, no cover for the camera so it got very wet.

It unfortunately died and I'm left with a paperweight... :'(

On the bright side the lens survived as it was weathersealed (and more expensive than the camera).

Only the pro 1-series bodies are weatherproof.

As mentioned, it would depend on what lenses you are using. Anything other than the L series canon's (and only certain models as well) aren't weather sealed. Combined with a 1D series body and filter, there pretty bullet proof. If you are at all fussed, just buy yourself a lens / camera cover, these ain't too expensive, ranging from couple of £ to £30/40.... worth the investment if your out in all weathers. http://www.wildlifewatchingsupplies.co.uk/
