Yes
I fell up the stairs, yeah funny, but seriously I've never had a problem with stairs so much as I do in this house. Anyway, the mac was in my right hand, power supply in the left, and the power supply connected sharply with the open screen as I fell. The LCD screen is now smashed to buggery.

Any ideas how much a replacement screen is for a macbook? Regular not pro.

Its a macbook 2.1, core2duo 2ghz

Apple Care Plan thingy!?

Oh dear...not good if you dont...I had water ingress last year, and was quoted £500+ if the screen needed replacing. I've got the same model as you i think (13" macbook, Intel Core Duo?)

Luckily mine didnt need replacing, just drying out!

Ouch - that sucks. Hope you get ift fixed without breaking the bank.

House hold insurance springs to mind here

Thanks all. I wonder how hard it is to DIY replace... I'll do some research.

It is not too difficult to take anything like that apart but you need to follow a systematic logical approach.

This is the method I use to repair anything that I don't know intimately and IT WORKS.

Get a fishing tackle box with lots of compartments and number them.

DRAW the bottom of the computer with a small circle for each screw or piece.

Write down what you do and take the first screw out then place it into hole 1 and put a 1 next to the small circle on your diagram. Take out screw 2 and IF it is exactly the same as screw 1 put it into the same pot and put a 1 next to that screw then continue round so that you have a 1,2,3,4 etc next to each screw and know which screw type goes in which hole.

Each time you have to turn it over in any direction draw another diagram and carry on with the numbering.

Always support the screen and NEVER pull cable off the motherboard or any other place using the cable.

Take photographs if you have to and label the diagram with the route of any wires.

This might sound ott but it allows you to re-assemble your item exactly as it should have been.

There are lots of disassembly instructions for Apple stuff on the internet, Ifixit ones are usually very good. I have some on my www.upgradeyourmac.co.uk site but I do not go to the same level of disassembly as they do.

My friend has the white macbook that has a blown logic board, Im sure you could get the whole thing for about £65. I know the screen works fine.

I would be interested in the top assembly/keyboard if he does!

Im not 100% sure but I think the top assembly has that typical Macbook problem with the small crack where the screen nipples hit (im sure you know what I mean) I also heard that Mac recognise this as a design fault and in quite a few circumstances have been honouring the repair.... worth a shout. Let me know if you still interested, he will only sell as a whole though.

I droped and broke my laptop, contacted my home insurance company and they set a carrier to pick it up.Two days later got a call to say it was not fit to repair then 2 hrs later a call from the insurance to say a card was in the post so i could go get a new one less the excess.Got a deal it cost less than they gave me so spent the rest on a new external HD

New screen arrived and fitted.

@cowasaki - thank you so much for that URL. it made the swap really easy. I'm back up and running, took me about an hour. £63 job done.

Well pleased you did it, did you follow my instructions about the screws etc?

partially. i laid out every component in groups on the floor of my study. the one time laminate flooring is actually a good thing! I laid them out in order, left to right and reassembled right to left.
