Just sold my X10 but want a quality compact but what?

When I bought my X10 it seemed to fit perfectly, and it was an excellent camera, but because of my health/disabilities it didn't suit me so what do I get next?

Because I am in a wheelchair a lot, or if not have to use a walking stick I found the X10 difficult switch it on & use the zoom as it needs two hands.

So now I am looking at a quality compact with absolute maximum budget of £350 (not a penny more :nono. The choices seem to be:

1) Canon S95/S100 but scared it will feel a bit too small but very pocketable.

2) Panasonic LX5 an old model but still offering one handed operation and capable of good IQ but is it pocketable.

3) Olympus XZ-1 as the LX5 an old model but offering a one handed operation but a little bigger and is this pocketable.

4) Canon G12 capable of one handed operation but getting more towards the X10 size and doubt it is pocketable.

So what do you think as I was convinced it was to be a S100 but doubts crept in over past 24 hours

The LX7 would be the best choice IMO

Small enough to be jacket poacketable, as good as IQ you will find, easy controls and easy to use one handed.

The Canon S100 will easily fit in your trouser pocket. You'd have to have quite big pockets to fit the other cameras you mention, in your trousers.

Indeed it is but it could be easier to use one handed BUT I really do need to contain myself ( ) even though I like the G12's fully articulating screen.

The Canon S100 will easily fit in your trouser pocket. You'd have to have quite big pockets to fit the other cameras you mention, in your trousers.

I did have a go with a pal's S95 and felt that was just too small. My wife has the Panasonic TZ30 which is about OK (size wise) but the LX7 will be that little bit bulkier which will suit me -- (I think ) Dither, dither, dither......

If it has to be pocket size then the s100 is the only real option for your budget. I went round and round for ages looking for a compact and always came back to the s100 as it was the only afordable solution that really was pocket sized. Had one since the summer now and it is brilliant takes great pictures and the high iso performance is very decent.

And high ISO would have to be important factoring in the slowness of the lens

ive got the panasonic lumix tz7 and thats a good compact and not too expensive and can easly fit in your pocket

I sold my TZ8 on thee Bay earlier in the year. I too many a good shot with it but found it extremely poor in low light, or even in OK light but indoors. My wife has the TZ30 which she loves but it's not much better indoors than my old TZ8. :thumbsdown:

I have to pop into town (Exeter) again tomorrow and I'll nip into the Devon Camera Centre and ask their advice - they always seem to give decent advice, even if they don't stock their own recommendations! Should you need to come up here to look at things and buy them, I'll give you a push (and even buy you a decent coffee!), just let me know when and where you'll be parking. I'll even try to have a little scout round to see where the most convenient disabled parking is for you.

The lens isn't the fastest at the long end but all round it's the best properly pocket size camera on the market unless you have the cash for the new Sony!
