Hi guys..

After a little advice. Recently bought a D90 and grip on sale. Looking for a robust outdoor type bag for it. I've heard through a climbing/outdoor friend that the Kata bags are ideal if I want to be carrying it out and about on the hills and on fishing trips up and down rivers etc.

Anybody have any experience on these bags or recommend another brand that will be compact enough to take the camera and grip?

Thanks in advance.

David

I have a kata 123-go 30 which I'm very happy with! There's a big girl on YouTube reviewing it!!!
I carry in it a 60d usually with sigma 150-500 fitted and a couple of other lenses and a pair of binoculars with prob more room if arranged correct!!

I really want a bag that doesnt look like a camera bag! For a body and a couple of lenses

If you are able to find a Kata bag with the spec you are looking for, I will not hesitate in recommending them. Very good build quality, but above all they have a fantastic customer service when things aren't right. They are an outfit who prides themselves in selling quality and lasting products. I like that their bags do not look like camera bags, and have bags that can take both personal and camera gear.

I have a Kara 467, it can deal with a camera, plus two extra lenses and flash with ease. I have carried more like extra body and lenses and it still manages to cope

We have a 467 and a 3n1-30

Both fantastic for what we need...

I love my 3n1-30, can take my 1d and loads of kit, and the strap set up possibilities are fantastic.

Great build quality, well padded, IMHO better than the lowepro equivalents (have had fast packs & sling shots)

Love them!

Thanks for the replies lads...is there a specific Kata bag that will just take my D90 and grip with maybe one spare lens which is suitable for rugged outdoor use? I have checked the Kata site but not really sure I can see a bag that will take the D90 body and grip with lens attached.

I did consider a Kata bag but ended up going with an F-Stop one instead which I can highly recommend as an alternative.

I have the Kata 465 I. It takes my D7000 with 18-105 lens and a Nikon 70-300. It also has two flash guns and a load of other bits and bobs in the various compartments.

I really like this backpack as it takes my monopod or tripod.

There's an article Here.

I have the 445, an excellent bag.

The perfect bag has never been made nor ever will be, they are all a compromise IMVHO.

Thanks Guys

Dave from Wales... Think your spot on there. What might be a perfect bag for my needs might not suit anybody else.

Think I will go for a Kata bag but unsure as to which model!

Quite like the Kata too.

Want one for a D90 and a couple of lenses

Thing is though, it must not look like a camera bag!! Are crumpler better in that respect?

I find a shoulder bag uncomfortable to use onnlongnwalks. Whilst there is no denying that acces is easy. My Kata ul-222 is just so comfortable.

Me too! I got it for a fab price on Amazon after someone posted in the shopping section. I took it to a wedding on Tues with a D700 with 24-70 lens, D90 with 17-50, a Sigma 105, SB600 and 50mm. That was all in the lower part, in the top part I had batteries, cards, food, umbrella etc. I don't usually take quite that much but it was good to know I can if I need to.

Got a Kata dr495 rucksack style bag last year(good price on Amazon probably because it was in yellow!)and currently have my D40 with grip,55-300 zoom, kit lens and 40mm micro in it with other bits and bobs as well;would probably be able to fit a flash gun and another lens in there as well.It proved its worth at last years Motogp week-end at Silverstone especially staying dry inside(using the waterproof cover) in the monsoon rain on the Sunday.

Thanks for your help guys... Got me a kata bag cheap ish on eBay :-)

Shoulder style with quick access and room for a spare lens.
