Keep old 350d and get a good lens or new Nikon and cheaper lens

I am in 2 minds at the moment I can have cash or a 350D as payment for a quick job this comes with the standard kit lens.

I was already planning a SLR always liked the Nikons and used them in the past 401/601/D50/D70 etc and was looking at a D5100 or a D90 and a midrange lens for general photography mostly pets / wildlife and fast action shots of my dogs / wildlife.

So was looking at spending tops of £300 -£350 so where is my money better to go Nikon D90 or Better lens for the 350D?

Or even a D200 was the other option?

Don't know much about Nikon, but the Canon 350D is a bit dated now, I gave mine to my 5 year old son.
