Don't mean any disrespect here my any means.........

I'm starting to spend quite some time on his site, reading gear reviews etc etc,
and although a review in a way is a personal thing, should I be trusting this guy?
Because I am starting to!
Looking at a 'manual' he's made for the D200, and there's some settings in there he recommends and some he doesn't recommend.

Should I be taking his advice?
He does take some lovely shots........

Thanks mate.
Who's going to be the first person to say 'use the bloody search function' then

I was planning on using it, honest

He does speak some sense but with togrofee, opinions are different with everyone.

I generally read his reviews when I am need of a good laugh. He makes sense 'at times' but a lot of the stuff he comes out with is just plain odd. i think he even mentions on his own site some things he says just for the fun of it?!

hehe, yeah he's a pretty fun read. although quite a bit of his thoughts can be had with a dose of salt, read between the lines and you'll see its basically fairly good advice i.e. shut your whining and get on with taking photos!

use the settings he recommends, if you get good results keep them, if not bin them, you're not going to damage anything.

I bought a 1980s Canon 70-210mm F/4 based on his review and so far i've no inclination to upgrade to the L version

He's a first-class cretin, and possibly insane. He thinks tripods are obsolete, he thinks flashes are obsolete, he thinks sensor cleaning is unnecessary, he thinks shooting JPEGs with absurdly high saturation makes post-processing irrelevant, he thinks shooting anything more medium quality JPEGs is unnecessary, etc. etc. etc.

He's genuinely barmy.

How does it feel then, knowing that someone you class a cretin, makes way more money from that website than I'm sure you earn

It doesn't make me feel anything? As if the money someone earns is in any way an indication of their quality as a person! I'm sure no one would argue that Jordan is intelligent, but she makes stacks more than I ever will...

Why do you have to look so much into the specs and others' reviews? Trust yourself and no one else.. Choose one you like..

But he does take a decent pic which is more than some of the people who shoot him down do! ;):D

Thanks for all your replies.

Well Ken sure seems to be bit of a character!!

I've got some settings on my D200 the same as he recommends, and so far good results.
The one thing he does suggest is no in camera sharpening, which I find curious.......

If you are shooting RAW then in camera sharpening will not make it to the RAW file anyway

No quite.
I don't use RAW allot as I don't get much time to PP all my shots!

I'll only use RAW occasionally.

Ken is all about using the camera technology to do the work, hence his recommendation to use jpegs and vivid settings and so on. So on that basis I don't understand his avoidance use of in-camera sharpening either. I never use it (I shot raw) but perhaps it over-sharpens? Dunno.
