Whilst out shooting the other day i was chatting to a couple of guys about 1.4 converters and they let me try theirs and the kenko version actually was perfect as opposed to the canon one so i wrote down the details as kenko pro 300 c-af dgx and am about to oreder one but noticed it`s an AF as opposed to my lens fitment of EF can any one shed some light on this please? Harvey
 
I had one on a Nikon 2.8 80-200 and thought it focused softly! I didn't like it so sold it! The nikon one was more expensive but sharper
 
AF will refer to auto focus, if it's a Canon fit version you're ordering it'll be fine.
 
AF rathers to that it passes AF information and not the fitment type... think c in this case is Canon.
 
I have both the Kenko 1.4x Pro300 DGX and the Canon 1.4x III.

I bought the Kenko to fit my Canon 100mm F/2.8 L IS Macro because the Canon 1.4x doesn't fit that lens. I have tried the Kenko on other Canon L lenses (I only have L lenses) and it's better on the 400mm F/5.6 L than the Canon because it doesn't limit the AF pts on the 7D Mark II. However, the Kenko refuses to function at all on the Canon 100-400mm L II.

The Canon 1.4x works ok on the 300mm F/4 L IS and very well indeed on the 70-200mm F/4 L IS and the 100-400mm L II. On a 70D it kills autofocus.

What all this means is that different extenders/teleconverters work differently on different lens and body combinations. On combos which do work I have not noticed any difference in image quality whether Canon or Kenko 1.4x.

My advice would be to find out specifics before buying either.
 
I have an old "N-AFD 1.5x Teleplus SHQ Kenko" which is (as the N suggests!) a Nikon fit one. Unlike Nikon's own offerings, it will accept the consumer grade zooms (18-200 and 70-300VR) that I have. BUT, I reckon I'm better off cropping into images since the telecom degrades the IQ significantly.
 
I have a 1.4 pro 300, had it for years and it is sharp and as good if not better than the canon ones I have tried.
 
I bought the Kenko one 3 weeks ago to use with my Canon 300 L and 100 L macro. After reading Red Robins comments on another thread. I find no difference in IQ With or without it.
