I have a set of Kenko Auto Extension Tubes and wonder which would be the best lens to use them on.

I have the standard Nikon 18-55 zoom but also a Nikon 35mm 1.8G as well.

Any thoughts please?

Hi William,

I shoot canon and always found the nifty-fifty to work very nicely!
That said, I am guessing the Nikon 35mm would probably give similar results?

Thanks Adam. Never actually managed to get round to using the tubes yet. I just wondered if a prime would be better than using a zoom lens.

Better if you got more mm ;)

Either will do but I think that the working distance would be pretty close on the 35mm, and definitely at the 18mm end...

Put them on and use the 55mm, f11 with plenty of light/flash. Should be fine...

If you need subjects... Stamp on a letter, coins, pens/pencils, little models... bugs, small flowers.

Enjoy the macro world!

Excellent. Thanks very much for the advice ecniv. Macro is some thing I keep meaning to try but never managed to get into.
I see what you mean about the 35mm. I have also got the Nikon 70-300. Could I use the tubes on that?
