Hi,

Advice needed please.

I have been looking at both the titled model and the standard version, the
Kenko Teleplus 2x HD DGX Teleconverter for Nikon.

It will be mainly used for nature photography and for moon pictures, so just wanted to know if the extra £100 for the Pro is worth it.

TIA.

Tony

Hi Glynn,

It would mainly be with my Nikon 70-300mm 4.5-6.3 lens.

Equally important - which camera will you be using it with? Your profile says it's a D50 - will that autofocus at f/11?

The x2 teleconverter adds 2 stops so your f/6.3 lens becomes an f/11, even wide open at maximum zoom.

Hi Glynn,

It would mainly be with my Nikon 70-300mm 4.5-6.3 lens.

To be honest, I would not bother with either, as you will not get decent results with that zoom lens (or any other zoom lens for that matter). - You will lose 2 stops of light and image quality will also suffer.

Converters are really designed to work with prime lenses and having tried mine with my Nikon 200-500, I can confirm that!

I do use a 1.4 converter with my 500 f4 prime, but even on the 'prime' anything stronger (1.7, or 2.0) suffers from loss of image quality.

If you need the extra reach, I would suggest putting the money towards a bigger zoom, such as 200-500.

Good luck with whichever route you follow.
