A couple of years ago I bought a Nikon 18-200 and ordered at the same time a Hoya Pro 1 UV filter as I always do.
The supplier informed me they were out of stock of the Hoya but had the Kenko equivalent which was the same as the same company made both and just marketed different brand names in different countries.
I went along with this and was dissapointed with the lens as I found it a bit soft, but it is not a pro lens and maybe I was expecting too much.
I recently got a cir/pol filter put that on the lens and wow - totally different images - much sharper and generally superior. I then shot without any filter and had great results.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?
