i normally do pics of horses and dogs, however i promised a friend of afriend some pictures of her daughter (2 years)

where is the best place to do the pics? in her house? outdoors?

we could go to a nature reserve closeby, however im going for real natural shots... so want the child to be comfortable... and not paying that much attention to me (except for perhaps the odd shot)

but britain being britain - weather is also a considerattion!!

help!

p.s i have looked at peoples pictures on here and some lovely ones indoors in black and white :)

In the house is fine, best near any large windows for some catchlight interest. Have you got any fast lenses? It always helps to blur out the background clutter of home

I agree with V8, some nice natural light indoors would work well if the weather is too cold or wet. If your familiar with equestrian photography you will have no problem capturing movement - perhaps a run in the park or outdoors where she is less restricted would work well too, go for both and you should have a good selection for the mum.

A prime lens 50mm 1.8 perhaps?

V8 - love the websites. ;-))

no im buying the 55-200mm lens hopefully tonight/tomorow

i have the standard 18-55mm lens...

however - i wouldnt mind buying the 1.4 but i would only buy the manual one for £100 right now as for equestrian now. its reeally not going to work for me.
do i really need a faster lens???

i do pics of my dogs inside( not comparing to kids!!!) but they capture well...?

fast lenses are good particularly for indoors as they have the large apertures for low light and a fixed focal length. its all i ever use and i shoot mostly natural light, subjects being kids.

Useful locations indoors - kitchen table, dining table, bottom of stairs with front door open, in the doorway (front or back) sitting on front step.

Outdoors, take the kid into the garden or to a local park.

thank you zozo! :)

really helpful :)

i will suggest these things to the childs mum and see what she sayss :)

im giving her some freebies (no more than 4) and then the rest she canhave a few more copyright ones if wanted on facebook... :)

I used to 'manage' indoor pics with my 18-55mm and then when I got my 50mm f/1.8 I was taken aback by how much easier it was. Less blurred images, brighter images, far better bokeh. It's worth it.

I used a 50mm on crop body for Show Jumping worked really well. What I mean is once you've got a 50 you'll be amazed how good it is and how often you'll use it.
Go for the Siggy 1.4 £309 or so from OneStopDigital. Fabulous for low light situations.
I don't know anyone that regrets having a fast 50mm

Just switched to Nikon and ordered mine today !

i know but its £300! i said i would get it...however! i have been guilt tripped into not buying it :@

give me a month of doing outdoor shows (as my intrests are animals! - horses and dogs moreso than any.) so i shouldnt need that lens for that...right? ive been doing fine with my 55-200 and my 70-300 that i just sold :/
