I've been toying with the idea of replacing my desktop pc not what you were thinking!!

A HP 64 bit desktop pc has caught my eye.

Are there any disadvantages to 64bit pcs as opposed to normal 32 bit pcs?

not as many disadvantages as there were !

advantage 1: being able to use more than 3.5gb RAM :D however, you do need 64bit capable applications. it's all very well having an OS that can reference all your RAM, but then run 32bit applications within it that are restricted to 3.5gb :P

Now that 64 bit OS are available we will start seeing 64 bit apps becoming available.

Although many current apps are still 32 bit, if you are looking to future proof your new machine then 64 bit is the answer. However it may be some time before we see 64 bit being the norm, as applications take time to develop.

The pc I'm looking at is a HP machine and has things like 8gb ram, 2x1tb hard drives, blu ray player.

Awesome machine!

Been running XP64bit on my desktop for about 18mths now and the only problems have been with an HP9800 printer that I cannot get drivers for and it wont run on 32bit version, everything else has installed either with specific 64bit drivers or the standard 32bit versions, and I have installed plenty of stuff on it. Its quick as a quick thing. Sometime in new year I am going to upgrade it to Windows7 64, but its not so much the cost, as the time it will take to re-install all that software :help:

im using 64 bit right now, had it for about a year... never had a single problem with it and i use CS3 and then upgraded to CS4 i also use the internet alot, alot of games too

its amazingly faster than 32bit but i have 8GB of ram in my pc so thats mostly why its so fast. only payed 250 quid for my pc not including OS :D

Thanks for your replies everyone.

This is the pc I'm eyeing up.

Did go in to Currys yesterday and saw the new iMacs. They're good but I'm still a pc man!

save you £10 - you can buy me a beer http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179424.

I've been running that desktop for about 3 weeks now - using it at 64bit with LR and CS4 has given no issues - they fly along, and I have to say I can't actually find anything I regret about buying it
