Kingfishers

Last weekend we joined a community litterpick close to our apartment and included a small wood which we were told has some kingfishers in residence. We went for a walk there this evening and were rewarded with a few flypasts before the male sat nicely on a branch outside their burrow.
Canon 6D 300mm f5.6 1/250. Rather noisy at iso12800 as the light was dropping in an already shady spot. But excited to even get picture.

Please don't forget they are a Schedule 1 bird and during the breeding season you should give them a very wide berth. Plus, if possible educate those around you.

Burrows mean nesting and nesting means they are protected!

@Dale. IIRC is clued up on this matter.

Thanks. This was on a small bird ‘reserve’ in Amsterdam so different rules. I’ve read Dale’s stuff so kept a safe distance and minimum noise to avoid disturbing them.
