Can anyone tell me which Kirk Arca-Swiss lens plate I need to get to fit the original Sigma 120-300 EX DG HSM OS?

There seem to be a couple of potentials but I'm not sure if either all fit...

There's the one that fits the "S" but it has a slash between so not sure if it'll fit the older OS model http://www.kirkphoto.com/lens_plate_for_SIGMA_120-300mm_f2.8_DG_OS_HSM_S.html

Then there's the one that fits the older non OS model, I presume that won't fit?

kiwi photo off ebay do nice decent price plates, its the anti twist features is what you need to pay attention to, and strap lug or holes

After looking around and seeing the mess that Arca Swiss plates cause for things like straps I think I'm just going to take the top off my Manfrotto Ball Head and replace the Arca Swiss head on the tripod I just bought. I may buy some Arca Swiss stuff later on but I need everything for thursday and the extra space and "stuff" needed isn't really conducive to travelling light.

I'll keep that Kiwi Photo stuff in mind though, but will still need to work out how to easily attach it to my BlackRapid strap.

Get any Arca-Swiss plate, preferably a nice long one so you can slide along it for best balance, then get a clamp like this (or similar) for a tenner and screw the Black Rapid attachment loop directly to it http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00RK118FS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

Or, try a Luma Membrane connector under the plate http://luma-labs.com/products/m-connect

Or, get a standard Arca-Swiss plate (the ones hollowed out underneath, with rubber grippers on top) drill a 10mm hole in one corner and fit it so that end over-hangs the lens foot. Hook the Black Rapid clip directly through the hole.

I have used all three methods very successfully, though the first option with the extra clamp is the one I've stuck with.

For carrying it with a Black Rapid, I would agree with Richard as to using the first option (attaching an Arc clamp to the strap), for extra security and piece of mind I added a Op-tech uni-loop fastener in case the clamp came loose. (Other end of the uniloop is on my camera)View attachment 33798

Anyone know of any plates you can screw the BR fastener directly to (in place of the supplied screw)? The extra clamp is quite bulky compared to just clipping in to the fastener that also attaches the plate to the lens/camera (like on the Manfrotto system).

Or am I missing something integral here?

TBH I thought it would be too big, but compared to the lens and body you don't notice it.

Here is the official BR Scratch Swift Clamp, it isn't cheap though at £100ish

Q-straps do something similar for £25

Which in all honesty doesn't look much different to mine which cost £15 + £6 for the uni-loop

There are similar clamps available for under £10, mine came with area plate as well (which I wanted). There are also smaller clamps available like this one

However I wanted something a bit more substantial considering it was going to have the best part of 5kg hanging upside down from it!

I'll have a look in a bit more detail when I get back. I'm off on Thursday and want something tried and tested. I think for trips with less of a weight limit it may be a better bet.

theres a bunch of arca swiss plate clones with holes or slots for straps, which is great for optech range of connector options, just thread say a3/8s loop through and adjust to required length, and plate just lives on the lens and its hassle free pretty much.

to stay with black rapid style connector i guess you could use something to form a loop like paracord and clip into that

Put something like 'Black Rapid Arca Swiss' into google and search images. You'll find dozens of ways different users have gone about it. You'll also notice that the most popular method is the one I mentioned above with an extra clamp, as illustrated by Chris. The extra bulk/weight is nothing compared to the whole outfit, and there are some small clamps available if you prefer. This one is tiny and looks good, though I've not tried it http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neewer-Styl...d=1427714323&sr=1-6&keywords=arca+swiss+clamp
