Kit advice again

Im coming up to be able to buy another lens soon, and im after another prime, my initial thoughts were either

Canon 28 f1.8
Canon 20 f2.8
Canon 35 f2

now I need a one with usm since my current favourite lens is the 50 f1.8 and I miss quite a few of the puppy we have and I want to be able to take close up shots with the sky and other backgrounds, like this one

but with more of the background and him being a bigger part of the image(i dont mind being on the floor) as well as having it as a lens to be able to go out with my friends and take landscapes and street photos. So that rules out the canon 35 f2, so which would be the best would you think? any other lens suggestions would be nice too :)

my absolute budget would be £400

edit: that photos was taken with my 70-200 f4l and i know Ill need to be a lot closer :')

Canons 35mm F2 is an extremely good lens. But I would personally recommend some of sigmas primes. Specifically their 30, 35 and 50mm lenses as robert has also suggested.

I used a Sigma 50mm F/1.4 for all of 2 days and fell in love with it, the big front element also looks amazing :)

Out of your suggestions from the top of your post, The 28mm F/1.8 would be my choice

hmm, I'm not sure, I have done a lot of research and the reviews seem to be a bit wishy washy, some say that the sigma is better, others swear by the canon 28 f1.8 :help: I kinda want someone to just say "look in the real world x is better" or something like that its just driving me mad, I've never had this before with other lenses, there's always a better option :/

I've never had a lens that hasnt been made by canon (mainly because of the backwards zooming ring D: ) but I think I may have to go to a shop and try them, would you say that the 30mm sigma would be better that the canon 28?

have a look through my flickr, i have 100's of images with the 30mm, i cant recommend it enough.

I even chose the sigma 35mm f1.4 over the canon 35mm f1.4 L! far superior!

I see what your getting at but is it weird that I want to stick with all canon gear? I mean if there really is no difference and if Im going to be upgrading to a full frame in the future the 28 is the better right? the sigma is just for crop cameras?
 
Are there any others? As long as they're under £400 then suggest them please, I may have missed them, even if they're zooms :) ?

right, here's my situation:

I have just recently upgraded from a 500d to the 7d at christmas but however I have given my 500d to my granda along with the 18-55 kit lens so really I need something to replace that however I rarely used the 18-55 so I was thinking instead of saving up for the 17-40 f4l I should get a wide prime, hence my suggested lenses.

At the moment the only subject I take photos of are the dogs so when we go to the beach etc. and I tend to stick with my 70-200 since my only other lens - the 50 f1.8 - has a micro focusing motor and isnt very good at keeping up with the dogs. I would like to try some creative shots with the dogs like this but outdoors with him moving etc:

(this was taken with the 18-55 but he was still, if the puppy was moving I doubt I would have had it in focus)

but Im not sure the 28 f1.8 will be able to reproduce pictures like that hence I suggested the 20mm f2.8 but this is not my primary use its more that I want to start some street photography once I have some insurance sorted- which should be around the time of when I can purchase a new lens - as well as being able to take my camera about with my friends, this I imagine would be around Newcastle or south shields so most of it would be architecture and landscape as well as the odd person.

So far I've deduced that a zoom would be better to cover what I want to do but a prime would have better image quality and be lighter for when I go out to do some street photography :s

Canon 17-55 2.8 IS would be hard to beat from what you've said. Fine lens, way better than 17-40L on a cropper. Maybe used for a bit over your budget.

Okay, I think a zoom would be better for you simply because of your budget. Have a look at the range of 17-55 models available. I've used a Tamron 17-50 F/2.8 and I thought it was very good. Wonderfully sharp and super useful.

and yes, Canon do do a 17-55 but it may come at a little more of a premium.

hmm, its tempting, I could actually get the Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II VC LD IF which seems better with it's IS but it hasn't got USM so I'm not sure it would be good enough for dogs / moving stuff :S

It does have Tamrons equivalent of USM. It is a very quiet motor. You'd make an argument for needing more range, but I think for your price point you wouldn't find a better lens. Have a look on lensesforhire for the canon one and see how you get on with it :)

The 28mm F/1.8 isn't bad at all. It suffers from chromatic aberation when wide open but does sharpen up when stopped down, impressively so.
