In the first one I like the way the background is oof as it gives a sense of speed, the second one looks more static. Perhaps would be better with more space around him.. or at least infront of him for him to drive into.

I have seen comments saying it is better to have the subject moving into the picture rather than out of it!

Nice colours in the Kites. Wish I was closer to a beach !
 
Totally agree with you about the second one looking static,Forgot to change the shutter speed after i'd taken some other pics :bang:
Only had a DSLR a couple of weeks and still working it all out.
Both pics have been cropped so will take on board what you've said and will have another go.
