Kites up close

Brilliant Sir, wonderful pictures! Did they come from the camera like that or have they been tweaked any? Either way, awesome. How far away were you, what lens,, tell me more :D
 
Nice close-ups but for me they appear very heavily over-sharpened.
 
I would agree with Gramps Norman,too much noise showing on the feathers and lack of shadows. Do not take this personaly, but I just wonder why a lot of people insist on trying to show as much detail as possible at the expense of what would have been a good natural looking image :shrug:

Totally agree with this. I love taking photos of red kites, but whenever I post them (and some other people too) the alterations suggested make them look unnatural.
