L brackets (plates)?

So I have done a little research on this topic. Come down to conclusion I want either RRS or Kirk made bracket, but now the question I have. Where to order one?

The RRS looks like is only sold from their own shop in the US, which means ridiculous high shipping fees + import duties and VAT added on top. Kirk on other hand is sold by shops in EU (and UK), so that would be easier to get.

Has anyone imported RRS brackets (or other products made by them)? Wondering how much the total price would be?

You'll end up paying VAT at 20% (£19) and a handling fee to the courier company (around £10).

Unless it happens to come through customs without being checked anyway.

I know, bought loads of stuff from B&H as it was cheaper than buying locally. Even with VAT and duties added. :)
 
I've heard Kerso sells RRS stuff, maybe worth a try.
 
Hmm looking at all the options I can get the Kirk plate for 135Eur from The Netherlands with free shipping (if I understand Dutch correctly). So most likely I will go with that one. :)

Not sure you can go far wrong with any of them. Mine lives on my 5D2 - hardly know it's there and transforms tripod use :thumbs:

Good to know, how much play (movement) between the camera and bracket is there?

Effectively zero, provided you do it up tight.

There's the lip on the front, and if you check the base of the camera, there are two tiny 'feet' that locate into the L-bracket, at least on my Markins.

I've also modded mine a bit, as it's designed to stick out a little from the end of the camera so you can use a cable release when the camera's sitting vertical on a tripod. If I need that, I use of of those tiny RC-1 IR remotes, so I filed a bit off which allows the camera butt up tight. I've also looped the neck strap through both the camera and bracket for extra security.

Yes, I have. The last time was a BD3-L which cost $183USD plus $50USD for shipping. Import fees (duty, vat & clearance by UPS) came to £31.44GBP and my bank charged a £1 admin fee for USD/GBP exchange. http://reallyrightstuff.com/Product...3-L:-L-Plate-for-all-D3-series-cameras&key=it

Good to know, had bad experience with other plates (not L plates) moving under weight of 24-70L :(

Probably just as fast too - 4 days direct from RRS iirc.

RRS stuff is terrific - the BD3-L will hold a D3x & 24-70 with no play whatsover between the body and plate. The secret is in the curved mouldings on the sides of the BD3-L.
