Hi all,
I'm thinking of getting an L Plate for my d800 (Not the driving kind either) and most seem to need an Arca Swiss quick release head.
I have a Manfrotto Quick release on my Tripod.

I can get an L Plate for £25 from ebay, but don't want to spend extra £100's having to change tripod head as well.

What have other done in this situation.

Thanks
Pete

I took the plate off the stem on my Manfrotto ballhead and put a Benro panorama clamp which is arca swiss fitting on in its place.
Works well for general use and also for levelling up and rotating for panoroamas.

I was unable to do what Pete suggests when I tried to change plates because the stalk which the plate screwed into had a different fitting than the arca swiss, your manfrotto head might be different but no harm in trying. If I was going to get another head a cheap a alternative is a redsnapper rsf-12 £60 or preferred option sunwayfoto DB-44 £130 both are very good but the readsnapper is incredible value for money.

You can buy an arca swiss clamp which you can mount on the quick release plate but you might have issues with the clearance for the tightening screw.

You can also buy a 3rd party replacement for some manfrotto quick release plates (the 410 and 405 heads for sure) which convert the head to arca swiss.

So can I get an arca clamp that will fit my 410 geared head?

The Hejnar conversion is neat, but actually no different to simply screwing an Arca-Swiss clamp on top of the Manfrotto 410's QR plate. Dozens of suitable clamps on Ebay/Amazon for a tenner. Random google image shows the idea http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/2271/99367076.jpg

Thanks all for your replies.
I may buy an IronPig ball Head which has an Arca Swiss clamp and it only costs £46. It also weights less than my pan and tilt head and I have been meaning to give a ball head a go for some while.
