landscape and astrophotography lens

Hi all

im looking at getting a new lens and i was hoping i can get 1 lens that will be good for landscape and milkyway shots.

the lens i was looking at is the

Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM

the only thing that worries me is the f4, as it will be on a d5200 which will make it f6 so will it be wide enough for milkyway, if not is there a lens around the £250-£400 mark that would be better

Oh, and why would it make it f6? It's a f4-5.6 lens and meters and exposes like one.

For astro work, wide and fast is the order of the day. The Tokina 11-16 2.8 is a good suggestion, also look into the Samyang range as they do a 10mm 2.8 manual focus prime. I wouldn't look at anything slower than a 2.8 lens.

Minnt i thought as its going on a d5200 you multiply the focal range and fstop by 1.5

im usually wrong with camera stuff though as im still learning

No. Exposure will be correct.

Multiply the focal range only - the aperture will be the same.

Also as already said if you want to shoot astro and the milky way you want as fast a lens as possible - at least f/2.8 I would say.

Lonelyspeck has a link to a google drive doc that lists best lenses for astrophotography. When I searched for some of the bet ones, I found the Rikanon lenses were also sold under the name of Samyang . The one I was looking at is here:

It won't make it f/6, the aperture still opens the same amount (the feild of view changeson crop, nothing else!).

It's too slow for astro. I use a Samyang 14mm f/2.8 for my astro stuff.

Tokina 11-16mm f2.8?

A fine choice. Go for the Mk2 version if you want it to auto focus on the D5200 though.
