Landscape Lens Options

Having a think about where to go with my lens lineup, I have only the Sony 16-105 just now which is a cracking walkaround lens and I'm very pleased with its performance although it could be better in low light.

My main type of shooting is landscapes, buildings and I'd love to have a go and some night cityscapes.

The obvious choice for a landscape lens is an UWA and I am going to add a Sigma 10-20 to my kit as I loved the one I had before but are there any other lenses or types of lens that I should be specifically looking out for to help improve my landscape shooting? :help:

I would have said the Tokina 11-16 but it's not in Sony mount.

Can't fault the choice of Sigma- was this the f3.5 constant version or the 4-5.6?

Only other lenses are fisheye or tilt/shift (not sure if avialbale in your mount). Likely that the fisheye would be used sporadically but gives you creative options if you can justify having it to use once in a while?

I've heard the constant f3.5 isn't really worth the money so I've tracked down a secondhand 4-5.6 which I can see has taken some breaktaking shots already.

A fisheye I may consider, would probably have to be a Zenitar for something affordable in a Sony mount.

Well you also need a telephoto. Sony 70-200mm or 70-300mm should be both excellent.

It looks like Sigma is your best bet for UWA. Sony's 11-18 is Tamron design, and is also fairly lacking. But your 16mm is already ultra wide.

well im glad someone asked this because ,i was  of getting into landscape all i have at mo is kit lens 18mm-70
and some minoltas 35-70, the old 50mm 1.7 and the 28mm 2.8 but because of the crop factor they dont seem to do it i alaways end up putting kit lens on and winding it back to its 18mm or so
so id love some advice on landscape lens althought dont know if i would like a fisheye

Sigma 10-20 non HSM. At 10mm it will almost photograph your feet when pointed straight ahead!

I had one and was really pleased with the results. Only sold it because I rarely used it and couldn't really justiy keeping it when I wanted to buy another telephoto.
