Landscape lens

Hi,

Was wondering what you all would recomand,
I currently only had a kit lens whats suitable for landscapes.
Just after a wider lens with better quality

Ive only heard about the Sigma 10-20mm f/4.0-5.6 and Canon f/3.5-4.5 USM.

My price limit is open atmo!
 
Any good lens is a good landscape lens, depending on the landscape and the person using it.

What is your definition of "landscape" for your style of photography?

If your answer is along the lines of, "Brown and grey stuff with green bits on top", it would be a bit vague. For example, I find that a wide lens (10-20mm on a crop sensor) is suitable when the landscape has strong changes in elevation, e.g. high hills as seen from the valley.. but flat landscapes (e.g. the Fens) can get lost under all that sky, so I prefer a slightly longer focal length to focus on landscape details (30 to 100mm on a crop sensor).
 
Have a look at the tokina 11-16mm


For getting into it, try kit lenses from 16/17/18mm up..?
If you feel you need to go wider... then you can research the lenses.

Primes might (possibly?) give a crisper image (ie 20mm prime) and you can always look to m42 mounts to practice/find cheaper lenses that work fine.

Of check a hire place for lenses, they should have a few you could borrow over a weekend/week to see which you get on with, especially if the lenses are pricey.

Alternatively get yourself to a TP meet (or arrange one) and see whether anyone would mind loaning you a lens or two to see which you prefer.

Sorry, Landscapes as in like, Hills and sky / Windmills and landmakrs ect.
And i could always keep the kit lens if i ever come across a flat landscape i guess!

Tbh im trying to stick to canon and sigma but i will give it a look,
I feel im ready to go back the kit lens as ive done a fair few landscape shots i like :- http://www.flickr.com/photos/spps/
