looking for advice about a lens for landscapes.. budget £300- £400.

It depends on whether you want to move to full frame in the near future or not. If you think this might happen then an EF mount lens in the 17-50 sort of range would be a good buy.
Otherwise I would consider the Tamron 11-16, Canon 10-22 (I guess it would have to be second hand) and the Sigme 10-20. All are excellent lenses.
