Landscape/walkabout lens

I presume you got the18-55mm lens kit?

I'd say the new Canon 18-135.

Rave reviews, very sharp and excellent colour reproduction, and has IS.

18mm is more than wide enough for landscapes (and will get you MUCH better results than the kit at 18mm) and the great range makes it perfect for a walkabout lens.

Sounds like a good choice.........

How many ££££ do you have to spend?

The 24-105mm F4 L IS USM is a beaut, but around £650 second hand......

I'm in this boat to, looking at the 18-135 to replace the 18-55 and the 55-250 for my long shots.

Mainly wanted the 18-135 for walkabout, or the 18-200 looks good to

I've read all the reviews I can find on the 18-135 and it sounds a very good lens, would love to see some pics taken with it.

I thought about the new 18-135 IS to replace my old 18-55 (no IS) and EF 28-105 (no IS). But the new lens has no USM and no full time manual focus!!

Sticking with what I have.

^^^ does the lack of full time manual focus really matter? If you want that you just have to flick the AF to off!

And in relation to USM - the reviews have stated that it focuses as quick as most USM lenses, though it is louder. USM isn't really needed IMO for a landscape / walkabout lens anyway.

If you want to cut costs, best bang for buck by miles is the 18-55mm IS version kit lens. Nothing else comes close for the price and IQ and it's quite handy for landscapes, walkabout, portraits etc. Get a used one for well under a ton.

There is loads of alternative choice but start at three times the price and work up.
