Laowa 24mm F14 2x Macro Probe Lens

I have just bought one in work for a new research project. So far it seems to work really well and is much cheaper than a similar borescope. The minimum aperture of f14 requires a lot of lighting, but so far am very happy.

That would be the maximum aperture of f/14, presumably, rather than minimum.

No the min is f14 the max is f40 - you need a lot of light. My application is pretty specialised so the aperture is not a big issue. There is a built in LED light that might be useful for focusing but for most photographic applications it would require flash. I suspect most people who buy one of these will use it for video work.

I am using the lens to image water dropslets in a fast moving cloud. I use a pulsed laser for illumination which is synchronised to a high speed camera. As the shutter speeds are very shot in the range of 50-100 nano seconds we have to use a laser, there is no other way to generate enough light - hence the min aperture of f14 is not really significant.

I can imagine that must be tough! Would love to get my hands on one to have a play with. This is what I like about Laowa; they innovate and come out with lenses that are not already available.

I agree I like Laowa as they are prepared to be different. I personally have the 100mm 2:1 macro and it is excellent. The 24mm probe lens would be fun to play with photographically and great as a hire lens but I doubt I could ever justify one as a hobbyist. Optically it seems really solid and it is really well made, it is proving to be really useful in the lab.
