She needs one. Needs to be portable with a decent battery life. Used for general web browsing,itunes,photos (not editing) etc.

Bit pricey but i think it may last a few years? Small, cool and good battery.

Any help much appreciated, laptops are really not my forte.
 
Laptops are all much of a muchness at that sort of price point. The only thing that would worry me on the samsung would be the 13.1" screen (Ms arad85 wouldn't buy anything less than a 17" now she has experienced one). Depending on her sight, small screen size + high resolution = (generally) small fonts. I know you can change the font size, but then you lose the desktop pixel area. Personally, I'd go with an i3 as minimum spec. although almost any dual core will do the job for standard use. I wouldn't personally want to lug around a 17" laptop and the battery life will be considerably poorer with a big screen.

Depends where you are lugging it and how much you are using it ;) It never leaves the house so an electric socket is always near by and Ms arads usage is mails, a bit of web browsing and occasional document/photo editing (although with a new 7D to play with, I have a feeling she'll be needing a better spec PC soon enough!).

I recently bought a HP G62 and I really like it. £400 off Amazon. Came with an i3 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM hard drive - very good value for money, and the battery life is about 2.5 - 3 hours.
 
Not sure if you've bought it - but I used to have a Samsung (a few models down from the one you're looking at) and thought it was really good.

If it's any help have a look at www.ebuyer.com to see if they have anything good for you.

I went JD's route and got an Inspiron like the one he mentioned for my Mum.

The next challenge will be IT support down a telephone.
Having sweated half an hour explaining how to resize a window (and what she was missing till she resized); I've now got a half decent solution.
Check out TeamViewer....
I can drive her computer from 500 miles away allowing me to demonstrate something to her or do routine maintenance like making sure Windows and her anti-virus are up to date.
And when I get panicky calls like "All my emails have gone" I can find them for her (that was a drag and drop problem).
All my Mum has to do is thump an OK button within 10 seconds to grant me access; she's still got to get there in under 10s on the first go, but that's another story....
 
Lol i have teamviewer, its ace. I use it as a remote control when streaming laptop to tv. Its a godsend for retirees and there sons.
