laptop monitor calibration

I know a laptop is not the ideal imaging machine, but its all I have got for now, so how to I best calibrate the monitor?:shrug: I have read pages & pages on the web about it & have confused myself to death with it keep going around in circles!

Any simple advice on the subject, anyone?:thinking:
 
Some laptop screens will calibrate OK some wont. To be honest the best way is to use a calibration device. The Pantone Huey is the cheapest and it'll set you back about £65. The Spyder express is just a few pounds more expensive. After that it can get expensive.

These devices measure the screen response over a range of colours and density and then modify the Video Cards LUT to make up for errors ( as best the can. ).

Visual methods are not as effective as they generally work on one point in the brightness range not the full range.
 
Calibrated my new laptop with the Pantone Huey this afternoon without problem :D

My old IBM Thinkpad would never calibrate properly - not enough brightness or contrast adjustment available :(
