I think my next photographic purchase needs to be one of the above so I can download from the camera and upload to the net while I'm out and about.
If money was no object I'd have a Macbook Pro running full cs5 but unfortunately I don't think that's a reality.

A base level white macbook with bridge and ps cs3 (i have the discs and have at least one install left I think) is probably the limit of my budget.

I wonder if I really need to spend macbook money though, I'l never use the laptop for advanced editing, I'd do that at home on my Imac with my tablet etc so I'v been thinking of picking up a netbook.

There seems to be plenty available right around the £200 mark and I imagine I could put just Bridge on it to dl from camera and sort images. Possibly get hold of an older version of Lightroom so I could process raw files into jpegs if I missed the recoverability of raw.

Anyone on here using a netbook for a similar use or want to point out some glaringly obvious flaw with my plan that I'v missed?

Unless you've got money to burn, and it's not to be used for editing, I can't see why you'd want to spend any more than around £200 for uploading/downloading. There really are no cons to spending as little as possible to get the job done in this case....

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, my only worry was that a netbook wouldn't have the processing power to handle images.

I have a Packard Bell Netbook (Intel Atom) and it's handy for taking out and about. Just to note that the max screen res is 1024x600 and the Camera Raw window will only show 75% vertical and will not scroll down. P-Shop also has some restrictions - will not let you do a 'save as' - again this is down to the screen resolution.

I think if I go the netbook route it'd just be bridge I'd put on it, enough to take images from camera, pick the good ones and send them on to an agency/library.

Netbooks work great for dumping photos and then up/downloading.
I wouldn't want to do much editing though on a 1024x600 screen.

In your situation I would just get the cheapest 10" netbook I could find. There is no need to get a Macbook.

Anything more than a Netbook would be overkill just for downloading/uploading images. If you want to stretch your money a little further Dell have a refurbished site, usually they have Netbooks in stock, you might be able to get a larger screen or a bit better spec for your £200, its worth a look.

Compaq Mini 311c is a great netbook; my daughter just bought one. 11.6" screen makes a world of difference....
