Father in Law uses their HP Pavillian for some editing (when mother n law lets him 
) and finds it great
It takes him a while as he's not used to a laptop (mouse pad etc) but the laptop itself manages very well and he's happy with it.

If I were you, I'd go looking for a second hand MacBook Pro. Even one a few years old will run LR or whatever you need quite adequately and be a hell of a lot less hassle than anything else.

Just be wary of colour accuracy, as the majority of laptop displays are pretty dire in this regard.
