My Dell laptops coming up with the following message.
BOOTMGR is missing press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart.

Any ideas what this might be, somebody said it was the hard drive, but last time one of those died on me I got drive /c missing or something like that. Wayne

I feel for you, as I know all too well the aches from losing your machine suddenly!

How has the diagnostics come along?

The above link should get you going again. The BOOTMGR tells Vista where to boot from and if this file has been corrupted/overwritten you've got a non-booting computer. i've had this problem a few times when ive been setting up multiple OS's.
 
Ok tried all the above, the computer won't recognise anything, it's stuck in that loop, and won't do anything else. It won't boot from disk either. Pain! Wayne

Maybe the BIOS is not set to boot from disc?

To access the BIOS, try starting the laptop up holding the DEL key or try F2, F1 or F12 keys.

Once in, check it is set to boot from CD / DVD drive first.
 
Can you get into the bios at all?
 
Might need to press the Esc key first if there is a logo showing when you boot, then try Del etc.
 
Keep tapping f8 on startup and then choose safe mode.
 
can you get the machine to boot from the Dell vista disk?
You don;t have to use it just see if boot is possible
 
i think thats part of the problem its not set to boot from cd in the bios so he cant repair the files etc. if you tell us the model of dell laptop we can find out what keys to try and get into the bios and check?
 
Boot menu on a Dell is f12
 
Thanks guys, it a Dell PP20L (at least thats the only model no shown) and it's about 3-4 years old It was on XP. Wayne
 
hi there is a list of dell laptops here and the key to hit to enter the bios Link. Is yours an inspiron?
