I'm in the market for alarge format printer, currently the Epson 7880 is ticking most of the boxes.

Does anyone have any preferences or experiences which might make me think otherwise:suspect:

I use an Epson 7600, 9600, 7800 and 9800 and love them! Compared to the Epson 3800 they are really economical. Fair enough, the cartridges cost a fair bit, but they keep on going and going, despite hammering them a fair bit. One downside is that it only takes 1 black cartridge, so if you swap from photo-black to matte-black, you will need to physically change the cartridge and flush the lines.

If you do buy it (And I see no reason why not to) then I would also factor in the cost of ink (obviously), rollpaper (A roll of heavy Hahnemuhle can set you back a fair bit) and finally, but certainly not least; a decent RIP. We use Colorbyte Imageprint which is pretty decent. It makes saving paper and ink much easier and is certainly worth it in the long run.

Ps. I've made an excel spreadsheet with loads of roll paper costs. (works out ink and paper costs per metre etc), so if you need it please say and I'll email it. :)
 
I use an Epson Pro Stylus 7000 and love it, ink is not to expensive (£50 for all 6 cartridges) but I use QJet inks as I only really print for myself and friends. But saying that I've had a canvas on my wall, unsealed in sunlight for nearly 2 years and it still looks as good as the day it was printed.

I use QImage as my printer interface.
