Large Popup backgrounds

Hey all,
Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to the pop up 8x7ft lastolite hilite background. I love the product concept but can't agree with the cost (£300+) for some fabric and wire. I would make my own but can't tell how the popup/down works (any ideas).

A bit of background. Used for onsite portraits both single and large groups. Need it to be easy to transport hence the love of "pop up". Can't fit a 3m roll of vinyl or paper in the car!

Would love to hear your thoughts.

The Lastolite one might just be material and wire but it is good material and wire and it lasts. It's the specific tension in that wire that allows it to fold and stretch as it does.

Sure, buy a cheaper one but just be aware it might not last and might not keep it's tension properly.

You are right i am aware of the technicalities. For the investment in R&D they should charge more it's a great product. But the markup is more than i can bare!

It looks like i'll have to pay the extra anyway i'm just surprised no other companies have caught on to how good it is. Whatever happened to competition!

If you look on ebay there IS competition, whether they are any good or not I can't say :)
