Going to las vegas in june :D

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what kit to take or buy? Just now I have a D3100, 18-55mm kit, 35mm 1.8, 55-200mm VR, flash gun and tripod but that might be a bit big to take, might need something a bit smaller/lighter

Anyone think of any other lens or kit I should look into buying or getting when am out there if it's a good bit cheaper then here?

Cheers (y)

Make sure you take polarising filters for your lenses apart from that have fun!

There are some great bridges that you can cross and get some great shots of the strip.
It is busy so tri pods might not be an option to use all the time.

This was took from one of the bridges, hand held at night

Don't bother taking any cash out there to buy camera kit, the strip shops are just to sell to tourists at normal prices with no big saving, ritz camera had a shop in the outlet at the bottom end past the airport and the prices were lowish but the stock was one of this and one of that, unboxed or ex display stuff.

Hi CW90

We just got back 9 days ago.....in all honesty I wouldn't bother traipsing round looking for camera gear because a) with the current FX rates it isn't that much cheaper when you do find it (especially if you pay the import duties when passing back through customs - but please don't think I'm preaching morals :)) and b) its too hot to be wasting time looking round electronic shops when you should be enjoying yourself!

It was 30C on 31 March when we flew back.

Take plenty of cash (Vegas is expensive), a wide angle lens and have fun - its a great place.

Just back from Vegas on Monday! My advice would be take your tripod if you have room or if you have a gorillapod take it for night. 35mm was also handy for me at night to hand hold some shots. I also agree the polarizor is a must for daytime shots - we hired a boat on lake mead and it saved me big time !

I was going to say take a Gorillapod SLR, mine was invaluable when I was there.

I am off to NYC next week and its the first thing I will put in my bag!

I also took an 18-200 as a walkabout lens which saved changing lens all the time.

Humidity is the worst thing especially when in and out of casinos.

Thanks for all the advice guy. Will be going there for 2 week so should have plenty of time to do stuff :)

As for lens I am looking into getting a tamron 17-50mm and a wide lens 10-20/24mm

Did look at 18-200mm but a bit worried about the IQ. And it being a bit slow. for night time shooting?

2 weeks in vegas? ouch hire a car and get out of there for a few days, 6 days there any I couldnt get away quick enough but I have been 3 times only staying 5 or 6 nights at a time

2 weeks in Vegas....you are brave.

My advice would be take some cash!

We finished our 2 week tour of California there for 2nts before flying home.....I'd say we spent 35% of our total holiday spending money on those last 2nts....and I'm not joking.

A few people have said we are brave going for 2 weeks :bonk:

But everyone around my age that have been (am 23) says go for 2 weeks, you will regret give going for a week

I spent 2 weeks traveling the south west, and a total of 2 nights in Vegas. I would've loved to have spent another few days there, but 2 weeks would've been too long for me. Perhaps not my cup of tea. Im 26, perhaps 56 mentally? :D

2 weeks is 1 week too long. I took most of my gear, and used my 24-70mm f2.8L as my walkabout lens most of the time. My 10-22mm f3.5 ultrawide angle was fantastic, especially at night and at the Grand Canyon. I bought a second carbon fibre tripod (Giottos VGRN8255) before going, as would be easier to lug around than my normal use tripod. A shutter relaease is a handy accessory, although not essential. If taking a trip to the GC, an ultrawide angle would be advisable, and definately a polarising filter. I had no problems setting up a tripod at night on the street, and most of the crowds were corteous enough to give me a wide berth.

I have been for 2 weeks at a time a number of times (I even got married there the last time I went)

If you like gambling why wouldn't you want to be there for 2 weeks?
But besides gambling there is eating, sunbathing, swimming, shopping, site-seeing etc,.

I find it a relaxing place but there doesn't feel like a rush to do anything as you can even go out at 3am and do something.

A good eating tip !

Go to the Hard Rock casino and go to Mr.Lucky's. There is a special that is not on the menu, it's called the gamblers special. It's $7.77 for steak & grilled shrimp, you also get a choice of sides too. The salad is canny sized !
I got that for my first meal there, so inc a drink and tip it was $15, which is not bad !
