My last decent flight was over a week ago and seems like this haze will last forever. This always happens, you get a good day that lasts forever only to have 2-3 weeks of rubbish weather

Anyway some decent stuff was found and I will have to live with these until next time the weather obliges. Here are some from same flight.

I am starting to build a library of these types of shots and have a few trips still to do this year. Any of you pro's got any tips on how best to market shots like these as I could really do with buying a new lens but need something to pay for it:thinking: . A bit specialised perhaps but I would like to hear any suggestions.

I'm no pro but I'd look at Photoagencies and stock libraries. Alamy is a good one to start with as they pay proper money. There is specific SCOTTISH
one, but bit of an unknown quantity to me.

The boat one is lovely btw. ;)

Not sure if the firsat one couldn't handle a bit more punch?

hi HUN
i always look forward to your pics, i am really impressed with them, hope you are too. Cant pick a winner, they are all good.

Wow. I really like that boat on the water one. I thought it was the sky going funny before I realised it's reflection on water.

what on earth is the second one?

Exactly what I thought at first.

All good. #2 is particularly memorable. #3 is very good to look at and the oxbow is an interesting feature.

Christ Gandhi you work fast!

I actually prefer my "soft" versions. Am I wrong?

Boon - you darling! (in a straight man-to-man way, you understand). I am a hard self critic but #2 in this set is one of my favourites and probably will stay that way for some time.

The water in #2 is Loch Ness. The other two are south of the loch near Inverfarigaig.

I caught Dod out! I caught Dod out!:woot: :woot:

:D Now I see it, I thought you were looking up the way, not down. Couldn't work it out at all, thought it was some matrix inspired flying machine for a while ;)

Fantastic pictures. As everyone says, the second is my favourite, because its very surreal, but they all have merit. I would image a agency would snap up pictures like these. Good luck!!

quick 'fixes' lol.

No, you're not wrong. Far from it. If that's what you see then it's your vision!

Just had a fiddle lol.

I like them all! Some great work there. I really like the different textures you have captured from way up there.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone ! :ty:

Spoke to StockScotland yesterday. Nice chap who was helpful for ideas for future. He is not interested in "arty" shots but just straightforward "this is a photo showing the town and it's environs from the air" type shots.

He also said I should be taking photos of the industrial estates as there is always a demand for that !

Any more suggestions as to possible markets and/or who to approach anyone? Does anyone sell prints/cards/calendars and if so who do they use?

 heathen

I so look forward to these and get massivley jealous every time you post some up. They are amazing... and that's not because they have the impact of a totally fresh viewpoint it's because they're just bloody great.

How any agency could say they don't want them is beyond me.

Great shots, it took me a while to work out the second one. I think there is a definite market for these as they are unusual without being too 'out there'. Instead of approaching other agencies why not set up on your own, try some of the local craft show days, I'm sure these pictures would sell particularly if you included details of how you took them. I'd also approach local galleries, when I was in Inverness last year Ffordes in Beauly had images for sale, you might have some joy with tea rooms aimed at tourists, it gives them art to put on the wall and a showcase for your talents.

Apparently (according to my Mum) there is a stand in the big shopping centre in Inverness selling scenery photographs and she seems to think they are all by local photographers, it might be worth approaching them.

Just some initial thoughts of the top of my head, hope it helps.

Colin.

super shots!

try the jigsaw companies HUN, they may just take some of your pics.

Wow!
I really wish you well in finding a market for your pics, personally I find them stunning!
Love no.2, though if I hadnt read what the other guys put, I probably wouldnt have figured it! :bonk:

Those shots are fantastic, no.2 is my favourite, but it doesn't mean to say the other two aren't as good. I'm sure you'd have no trouble selling photos as good as those. You could surely even have a book published full of them too.(y) (y)

I was giving this a bit more thought last night as I drove to the show. Maybe you should add some 'tourist' shots to your portfolio, the first one that springs to mind is Urqhuart castle on the shores of Loch Ness, I'm sure you could launch from Drumnadrochit or Dores. I would make a list of the top photogenic tourist attractions with a given radius (and there are plenty around in the area), spend this summer and autumn building your library ready to launch next year.

I really think you could be on to something with this, particularly if you market the method by which you take them.

Great minds think alike (or fools rarely difffer..)

I flew past Urquhart Castle without detouring round it on the trip that yielded the above shots and this was obviously a mistake. I am in Sutherland early August and hope to fly round Cape Wrath and some of the better hills (Conival, etc) and also plan to get over to Harris soon.

Problem mid-week is the military flying. The "Highland Restricted Area" is massive and knocks out so many good locations. Matching weather and weekends as most people are aware is very difficult......

Thanks for taking the time to consider my request Colin. I greatly appreciate your input and hope to have more work to display soon (weekend weather looks foul, though).

Cheers

Gary.
