Quick question
Should I keep the cover on the LCD screen of my new D7000 when out shooting pictures????
The reason I ask is that without the screen protector the screen looks so much sharper especially when viewing the last picture taken.

I assume the current lcd cover is the frosted plastic type, same as the one that comes with the D90?

Invest in a GGS screen protector, worth every penny. Quick search on ebay should sort you out.

Took mine off my D700, was forever getting smudged. The screen cleans much easier and has no hint of a srcatch on it.

Not sure but the plastic cap that comes with the camera sucks, it might protect the LCD lens but makes it hard to see if the last picture is good or bad

Take it off. Horrible things.

LCD screen is pretty tough. Just be careful that it doesn't rub against anything hard, like metal buttons and belt buckles, or in the bag. It'll be fine.

Yeah I had one on my D80 but it was making pics look very dark when I reviewed them and in turn making make change settings that didn't need to be changed to compensate.

Chuck the plastic crap, I'm using mine without anything on it and haven't had any marks or scratches and thats been with its cover for about 8 months now.

I'm thinking of taking the cheapy one I put on my D5000 off as it makes it difficult to see if the photo was any good. Always been worried I might catch it on a zip though and it becomes a PITA keep folding the screen in all the time.

I have had problems with the protective plastic cover before (not on a camera). It was left on a display for some years then as it was a bit scruffy and yellowed so we tried to get it off. We couldn't.

cover it up
if you scratch it it is scratched for ever

I'm hopefully getting a used Nikon D90 soon, I don't know whether it will have the LCD cover on or not, but as the main reason I am changing from my D50 is because of the small screen making it difficult to judge the pics, I'm not sure I will use it now if it has got one, having read the above threads. I've had the D50 for about three years now and haven't got any marks on the screen so no reason to think I would treat the D90 any differently, ( famous last words !!!)

I dont treat my D700 with cotton wool gloves and there isnt a mark on it. Its toughened glass, it'll take a huge whack to mark it.

I leave the covers on always.

I think it is great that Nikon put the covers on, it may be toughened glass, but all glass can break. ;)

I'm not worried about it breaking the glass though really, but it getting scratched.

Each to their own though. :)
