Anyone heading down to the race weekend?

I've been every year for 10 years, and only finally managed to get some half decent shots last year having bought a reasonable body after going down with tiny cheapo digital cameras before.

Looking to ramp it up a bit this year and do a bit better, so wondering if anyone had any general advice for taking pictures of these cars doing anything between 100 and 220mph.....

The wire fencing is a real annoyance as well as I dont seem to be able to master making this "disappear" and without press access, getting anywhere close to the track without these in the way is next to impossible.

anyone found a decent spot to snap from?

Personally I found Mulsanne corner pretty good for some uninterupted shots, but other than that its seriously limited.

Any equipement worth investing in?

A wide aperture to reduce DOF is the best way to blur the fencing, may have to watch the focusing the camera may have it's own ideas :D Nip down to your local highway and practice your panning.

There's already a thread on the motorsport discussion area.

TBH I'd go and enjoy the party, my equipment recommendation would be a beer proof camera!

I split my time now - some photos, some beer - for us the Friday is the big beer day, with a late rise. I tend to drink less on Saturday, and snap from about 4pm until it gets dark, then ditch the camera and finish the drinks off in the first hours of darkness.

I'm yet to take a really good shot of the brake discs, so this will be the year hopefully!!!

1st time going this year, very excited, always wanted to go and going with a couple of great mates in convoy.

Not expecting great shots, everyone has said it is very difficult - oh well, looking to get more pics enroute really, prob alot of exotica on the roads. Hiring a 70-200mm 2.8 IS of a friend of a friend, otherwise I'd have gone for something longer.
