Hi,

I'm thinking of going to Le Mans in 09 and was wondering if anyone on here had been and could offer some tips? I'd particularly like to get some shots of light trails, but was wondering, how close can you get to the track, would a flash actually be worth taking or is it too far away to bother?

:)

As a spectator, there is basically NOWHERE good to shoot from at Le Mans. You can get a light trails photo like this:

At the Esses, and I think you can just about still get this pan:

And there's a few pans at Tetre Rouge, but that's honestly about it.

Go to Le Mans and enjoy the atmosphere, or shoot the atmosphere! It's one big party, don't go expecting to get any ground breaking shots of the cars!

Just have a good holiday, it's an awesome place, and an awesome race!

The fences there are really obtrusive and the crowds are huge but it's one massive petrolhead party and the carparks are great.
Unmissable

AND - It nearly always rains.........or is that Spa? Or both.....

There are shots to be had at Arnage too

But, as above, the opportunities for the public to shoot cars are pretty limited. Porsche Curves is an option where you can get above the fences. But you'll need a pretty long lens - 300mm.

Get the atmosphere, though - plenty of scope.

I agree with what everyone else has said.

I also have a big wheel shot, so my other advice would be to go on the big wheel!
