Yes
I tend to leave my lens on my camera for most of the time is this ok or should I be removing it and putting the lens caps on .. is there a time limit or does this matter

yours newbieish

I leave mine on all the time, sow ould also like to know. Don't see any problems though.

But lets wait for you to be told it's lens, not lens :P

I can't see why leaving it on is harmful in anyway. If anything, it will help keep crap out of the body and lens and if you're not taking the lens on and off there is less chance of damaging the camera or lens if you leave it alone.

Mine lives on the camera - has done for years, with this actual body, 3 years. OK it comes off to change lens, but one is on all the time, it keeps the dust out. If you only have the one lens, leave it on but turn the thing off. If leaving it for any length of time, like a month or so, I would actually take the battery out too - just enough to disconnect it.

Taking the lens off and putting the body cap on is just giving dust a chance to get in, if you don't, it can't. If you ARE changing lenses, ALWAYS turn the camera off, this reduces the chance of dust being attracted to the sensor if it does have a charge on it.

Yeah, I thought the same as Badger, less chance of damaging the camera or lens.

If I am travelling any distance with the camera in the pack, then I take the lens off. But under normal circumstances, it is on the camera all the time.

I removed the lens from my Nikormat the other day, for the first time in over twenty years. It was still a good positive fit, and went back on OK as well.

I never realised this! I almost always fail to turn the camera off whether changing lenses, changing cards, changing batteries, or whatever else. Might go someway to explaining my permanently grubby sensor!

There is always a lens on my camera... I would have to seriously search for my body cap if I ever needed it.

Never even reverse my hoods let alone take the lens off.

When they come out of the bag their ready to go.

thanx for that guys looks like it will be staying on :thumbs:

Begs the question why you removed it after 20 yrs.

But thats just me being nosey.. no real relevence :)

I don't bother leaving any lens attached to my camera now as i use a Peli Hardcase so everything is packed individually, nice and snug :D

There's no reason to take the lens off, unless you're changing it or want to clean the sensor. I do switch the camera off when I've finished using it for the day, but this is probably just a hangover from the SLR days and not leaving the shutter cocked. Taking the battery out if you don't intend to use the camera for a few weeks is a good idea. I think there's an electronic reason for this, which I can't remember, but I'd also be concerned about the battery leaking.

Always have a lens on each for that quick grab shot that I would miss if I had to fit a lens.

if you keep your bodies separate in the bag you need to take it off

it can lead to dirt getting in on the offchance

if you want to carry your body in a pocket and lens..no e..in another...then fine
but i would prefer if its just the one body and lens...to keep them attached

Hope you don't miss a shot doing that.

Camera always left on, lens attached hooded, lens caps off, set to P, out the bag ready to shoot in in 2sec.

:) I think I took it off out of interest, and because there were various spots showing on the viewfinder which were not on the front of the lens. So, I cleaned the rear element and the mirror, put it back together, and to be honest there wasn't much difference.
So, I have scheduled another "service" for 2029.;):D

If you remove the lens from the camera repeatedly just for the hell of it then you are increasing the risk of dust hitting the sensor due to the increase in instances that the camera is separated from a cap/lens.
