Lee Filter kit, what's needed?

Am I right in thinking that the minimum requirements to make a Lee Filter kit are:

1) A Lee 100x100 Filter holder
2) A suitable size lens adaptor
3) A 100x100 filter

I'm asking as I fancy getting a couple of filters and I think it may be time I start investing a system rather than screw ins. Lee's foundation kits are either unavailable or mega bucks so I'm thinking of getting started by buying the individual elements separately.

Do I need any special tools?

I assume I can just expand as the need and funds arise, i.e more filter holders, circ polariser holder, hood etc....?

One last question that I'm sure isn't new, is there any particular order filters should be stacked in?
 
Yes you're right, but the foundation kit is the filter holder. Its showing as in stock at WEX for £55 which is about the going rate. Then you just need to adaptor ring and filters

Cheers, hadn't spotted that. Am I right in saying that this will take 3x filters from the outset?

And, can I use any suitably sized filters (e.g hi-tech) or just Lee ones?

Thanks for the heads up I've just ordered one, its a pity I just ordered a used one from e-bay yesterday though :bang:
Suppose that's my brothers birthday sorted then! :lol:

Yes they come with 2 slots already on the holder and another that you can add if needed. Any filters will work as long as they are the right size, I use both Lee and Hi Tech
 
Sounds good. Thinking of ordering foundation kit, adaptor and some hi-tech ND Grads. Just need to check my pockets.

Do many people still like to use gradient filters if shooting digital? I honestly just prefer to do it in post. Saves carrying around the filters and you're not limited to a straight line for the horizon or whatever. You can easily drop say the sky a stop or two with a raw file, bracket for a landscape and its unlimited. Lightroom has a nifty grad filter built in that works a treat.

I'm all for getting it right in camera but these days I carry a polarising filter and an ND and that's it. I'm not the most prolific landscape shooter so excuse my ignorance if I'm off mark.

Just wondering if many people are doing it all with filters?

I want it for the Big Stopper..but yeah I agree about post production capabilities in relation to graduated filters.

I think there is still a market for ND grads, and it's probably getting bigger given how Lee have been having massive problems keeping up with demand so much so that alot of people have been on backorder for weeks.
