hi folks
i apologise in advance if this question has been asked before....

ok,i'm looking to upgrade to the lee filter system from my current cokin P system,as i've recently gone full frame,and am getting vignetting at anything wider that 28mm.i'm also looking to get a 16-35 or similar in the future.

i've been looking at the starter kit to get me started,and just build up from there as and when i need too,but obviously the adaptor ring isn't included,so i would need to purchase this separately.the lens i would be using the system on the most would be the sigma 24-70,which has an 82mm thread size,so would i need a particular adaptor ring,or would the standard one suffice?

any advice greatly appreciated :thumbs:

Well if you're using a 16-35 in the future and that's a definate, you'd be best advised to buy once and get the Lee 82mm ultra wide angle adaptor, if the thread size for that lens is an 82mm, otherwise you will almost certainly vignette at 16mm on a full frame camera and get a 77mm as well

a 16-35 or similar will be added at some point in the future,but maybe not for another year or so,depending on available funds etc...my 24-70 has an 82mm filter size,so i would be best getting a wide angle adaptor yeah?

not sure why i would need a 77mm adaptor for though...
 
You wouldn't need a 77mm adaptor yet but that would change if you invested in the 16-35.

Looking at your camera bag on your profile, I notice you have full frame goodness and cannot be sure whether you'd get vignetting at 24mm. Highly unlikely so you may be able to get away with a standard adaptor ring, but hopefully someone will come along with a definitive answer :)
 
Personally I would get the wide angle adapter ring, I got the wide angle on advice for my 24-70 sigma and that was on dx and due to using a CPL on the front as well
 
I use a standard 77mm adapter with my Nikon 16-35 and D700 that came with the Lee set I bought. I get vignetting until about 18mm,although even at 16mm, its still mostly correctable in Lightroom. I couldnt justify the cost of the wideangle adapter, but if you are only buying from scratch, it might be better to get a wide.
saying that, I dont know the filter thread size of the 16-35 you are refering too, so you might need to buy two rings anyway.
 
thanks folks...appreciate all of your help and advice.i've ordered a DSLR starter kit and an 82mm wide angle adaptor ring from dale photographic,which should be with me on thursday :).this will be enough for the time being,and i'll be adding an 0.6 ND soft grad,and 10 stop filter as soon as funds allow ;)
