Lee or Hitech filter system

I am considering upgrading to one of the subject filter systems. Has anyone had / have experience with the Lee or hitech filter systems, if so could you give me some guidence as to your preference and why please.

Hi I've just bought the lee dslr and big stopper If you drop me a message I will show send you some pics using the grads and big stopper
 
Hitch are good filters, but personally id say not as good as LEE. It depends if you can justify the cost. I'd always say buy the best you can afford. For under £300 you can get a set of grads, holder and ring in LEE.

IMHO Lee are the mutts nuts. Everything just works and works well. I would suggest that unless you have a really good reason to go for a set, go for a filter holder, adapter appropriate for your lens and three stop hard and soft grads. I find little use for my 1 and 2 stop versions unless for stacking in extreme conditions.

The big stopper is a superb bit of kit, but boy is it pricey. Unless you want to produce lots of shots for sale using it, then maybe go for the HiTech version.

The big stopper is a little frightning, which is indeed real pricey, i do have B&W, so maybe that will get me by.
I am currently considering a kit with the soft grads filters, holder, adapter for 77mm Lee and Hitech were my choices, just wanted to filter them out.

I use Lee now, after having started with HiTech.

I found the HiTech produced a horrible red/magenta cast which I don't get with my Lee stuff. In some cases the cast just couldn't be adjusted in post.
 
Buy cheap buy twice

Hitech have hideous colour cast especially when stacking, saying that unless you're a pro or really need the LEEs then save your pennies

To all, Which would you suggest Hard edge grads or soft edge grads.

There's a review of various ND grads in one of the photo mags at the moment. It might be an idea to make a trip to your local WHS.

From memory the Hitechs came out very well and the Lee's were not thought to be entirely worth the extra dosh. Personally I have a couple of Lee's.

I would go with Hard-edged. You can usually get away with it even if the skyline itself is not horizontal.

I've never tried the soft edge but apparently the full grad effect doesn't come in until the top of the grad "range". You'd expect that so maybe the 3 stop would be worth a try.
