I am thinking about doing a swap for my D1X(listed on here) for a Leica Digilux 2. It looks a georgeous item, only possible fly in the oitment is the EVF, but I'd learn to live with it. Any opinions on here? Any owners?

No one have a Digilux 2??

I had one a while ago and absolutely loved it. Out of camera jpegs were stunning.

Bear in mind that it is an old camera and that higher ISO performance will not match the newer models around. That said it is great to use and the lens is fabulous. Be careful though as I think there were some issues with sensors packing up.

I think they still go for very good money as they are relatively rare so you need to be sure it is what you want before splashing out. For not a great deal more you could possibly pick up a Panasonic GF-1 which is similar in terms of handling and a much "better" camera in terms of image quality. I have one of these now and it is the nearest I have come to the Digilux.

If I had the cash to spare, believe it or not, I would actually consider buying another Digilux!!!!!

well would you say a straight swap for my D1X and Nikon 18-55 VR AF-S would be a good deal? Thats what the guy would be happy with. The digilux is in good condition but has minor scratches on the base and top etc but has everything. Do you thinkthat s a good deal?

Sorry not owned the Leica but if you check the completed listing prices for both I would say it's a very very good deal on your part price wise.

yes I did look at that...and I know Leica's hold their value much better...decisions, decisions :(

Simples, you don't want the Nikon, if you don't get on with the leica you'll probably sell it quicker and for more money anyway. Simples :D

oh if it was the body only, done in a flash...but he wants my 18-55 VR as well...I'll wait till tonight see waht others think, otherwise I'll go over to the red dot ;)

From a cost perspective it looks a good swap. I also think the Leica would hold onto its value better purely from a scarcity point of view.

If it were me and you weren't desperate to keep the D1X i'd do it

Well left it too late, he swapped it for some other Nikon stuff! :( He said I could let him know tonight, obviously decided a Nikon in the hand is worth 2 in a bush! Oh well, thread closed as its sorted. tks
