H,

Am looking at buying a high quality compact and happened across the Leica D-LUX 4. Looks a great camera, but at £500 or so, is a lot of cash.

Obviously Leica is a well known & respected brand, but my question is, are they worth the extra £££ that you pay for them?

Many thanks, Justin

Lot of money for a red circle!

It's a confidence thing. I've had a D-Lux 4 for ages and it's joy to use. The LX3 is not quite the same - it feels like a Panny. The Leica oozes quality but I bet the pix are the same though.

no, its a compact the IQ will be just as crap as the rest of them lol

I thought that the D-LUX can shoot in RAW as well as JPEG. Maybe I am wrong?

It can!

I had one and found it had some dead pixels on the sensor!

The D-lux4 is made by Panasonic!

There is very little difference between the D-Lux4 and the Lumix LX3. The software is slightly different plus a few other very minor things (can't remember what they are) but certainly not worth the extra £200 just for the red dot. mind you it didn't stop me from buying one

My TZ6 has but it's not their 'premium' quality stuff, that's saved for the D-Lux 4

personally i think the LX3 handles slightly better as it has a small raised grip section on the body ;)

but if you're hypnotised by the red dot then we can't help you :naughty:

Thanks for the help here, much appreciated. I think I will check out the Panasonic.....
wise man..you wont regret it

check out the bridge cameras...good with zoom and handling...really compact

It's a bit like paying £1200 more for an Aygo because it has a Toyota badge rather than just buying the Citroen version of the same car, built in the same factory...

But if you want to resell it, the Toyota will probably fetch a higher price.
